Alcoholics Anonymous, ala-non, and the 12 step program is something that really works, if you’re serious about the program, and want to totally turn your life around. If you’re not sure how serious you are, just go a few times, get with real people, who are trying to overcome an addiction with everything they have. Their bonding alone is fantastic, because everyone there has hit bottom, and once you’re down, the only way out is up. You’ll find a whole lot of great friends willing to help pull you out. Don’t ever walk through that door feeling shame, they’ve already been where you are. I think that anyone who is critical about AA, is probably not an alcoholic, or is too self righteous to understand that alcoholism is an addiction, a disease. Or they are, and are so deep in denial, they can’t walk through that door for fear of hearing their story, and having to admit, ” my name is ….., and I’m an alcoholic. The Serenity prayer is significant for AA. They don’t often use the word God, They refer to Him more as their Higher power. No issues about religion are brought up that way. They say that once an alcoholic, always an alcoholic, but it’s up to the individual, as to whether they want to die a drunk alcoholic, or a sober one. It’s up to each person. They totally believe in anonymity, What is said there, stays there.
